In
summertime Australian coastal-dwellers love to flock to the beaches to enjoy
the sensations of sand, salt and sun.
The series
of drypoint etchings present a nostalgic canvas of my memories of summertime as
a kid at the beach; a world of sandcastles, swims, surf, and sunbaking. The
children featured are fully absorbed into the moment – the way we should be all
our lives.
The images
are framed in monochromatic haze blue-greys to focus the viewers’ attention on
selected features within, highlighted in vivid splashes of colour.
About the Artist
Patricia has
only recently taken up art as a fulltime occupation. She trained in printmaking
techniques at the University of Tasmania’s College of the Arts, between 2009
and 2013. Since then she has been an active member of two Hobart printmaking groups
and has exhibited in Canada and in several Hobart galleries. Her subject matter
is often personal and introspective – ranging from native and domestic animals,
to landscapes, to abstract and representational portraiture.
