Artist Statement
Ephemeral by both name and nature, the littoral zone is that coastal location which is covered by the high tide and exposed by the low. This zone is the one which is the most abundant on any shoreline being uniquely defined by a complex diversity of life. Images in these paintings represent this plethora of life; and just as each person may experience the littoral zone in there own way the abstract patterns give permission for the viewer to experience the paintings in a similar manner.
The feminine outline in the paintings also mirror the transient nature of the cycles of the tides and the artist's connection to this zone. From the high tide to low, from movement to stillness, from darkness to light and from life to death, just as these cycles never end, all these dualities are abundant in the littoral zone.
Artist Profile
Ornella Imber is an emerging artist who lives on the idyllic East Coast of Tasmania. She is a coastal dweller and if you have ever visited this picturesque part of the world it becomes obvious where Ornella gains her inspiration. Vibrant colours, delicate patterns and sweeping textures are the artistic tools that help to create paintings of exotic beauty. With painterly exuberance she produces images that will brighten any space.
Ornella has studied Visual Art at University and has been practicing as an artist for over 20 years. She has shown her work in several collaborative and solo exhibitions. Ornella has paintings in collections locally, nationally and internationally. She is represented by Waubs Bay, A Gallery in Bicheno. Her work is currently touring as part of Material Girl art award exhibition.
