Artist's Statement

Nature inspires my work, especially Tasmanian flora and fauna. Spending time in the bush or at the seashore calms me and stimulates my creativity. I use photographs and sketches to capture imagery that 'speaks' to me, and then transcribe the imagery onto wood, lino or aluminium plates. In the main I like to use a minimal palette especially blue-blacks, adding just a splash of colour to the final image.

This exhibition features prints of Tasmania's unique flora and fauna, showing the animals set within their natural habitats. You will see the Spotted Eastern Quoll hunting by moonlight; a long-tailed mouse hiding in deciduous beech foliage; a baby wombat scratching; an echidna hunting; a baby platypus emerging from its pool and a Cape Barren Goose on the attack. A freshwater crayfish is seen constructing a mud-ball chimney for its underground burrow, while in the shrubs nearby wattlebirds and honeyeaters tend their nesting chicks. High above, a yellow-tailed cockatoo keeps watch over the wilderness rainforest.
