About the Artist: Christine Moore
This
project is based on amazing landscapes which I have encountered over the years,
living in Tasmania and Switzerland and travelling to many places around the
world. It examines the effects of time and space on our emotions and memory and
how the artist can recreate events through partly imagined places. We tend to
think of landscapes in terms of space, yet time – the time of day, the season,
the particular point we are at in our lives – all greatly influence our
perception of place. These paintings involve connections to the past, present
and future, taking viewers into their own imaginative, evocative spaces.
When I started encaustic painting, I followed
the basic rules of how the encaustic technique works. However, I found this
technique so liberating that, very soon, I began to experiment and to include other
techniques such as collage, embedding, and stamping.
Since I also love acrylics and mixed media, I
inevitably took the next step: using these techniques to create the impression
and effect of melted wax. In my work, bright, vivid and surprising colour mixes
are always part of the alchemy. Although I like to experiment with different
subjects, mountains and seascapes remain amongst my favourites, always with an
abstract touch. Melting Moments are
just that: unique moments of space and time frozen in the melted, then cooled
wax - new worlds rising as real and imaginary 'space-time' landscapes.
