Animal Magic
Hannah Blackmore
My intention here is to portray the magic
of animals and their ability to see into our soul. Each animal looks directly at
you (apart from two who are blissfully sleeping), and sees you for who you
really are. There is nowhere to hide and an emotional response is thus created.
"If having a soul means being able
to feel love and loyalty and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot
of humans."
I have been fascinated by the magic of
animals for as long as I can remember, and have been lucky enough to share my
life with four great dogs and a handful of chickens. I am passionate about
animal conservation and welfare, and hope to one day contribute to this
important work through my own work.
I come from Jersey, in the Channel
Islands UK, and grew up visiting the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust,
founded by Gerald Durrell in 1959. This amazing place protects endangered
species from all over the world and has run many successful captive breeding
programmes, whilst educating people about conservation.
Its mission is to save species from
extinction.
As Schopenhauer once said,
"Compassion for animals is intimately connected with goodness of
character; and it may be confidently asserted that he who is cruel to animals
cannot be a good man."
I think having an animal in your life
makes you a better human.
These paintings are made using thin
washes of acrylic followed by detailed pen and ink drawing.
