It is with great pleasure that Inka Gallery presents 'Ode to Mrs Shudnat' - an exhibition of still life oil paintings by Lisa Moroney.

Artist Statement

Even in these modern times presentation of the home and cleaning is still considered the responsibility of women, and work that cannot be completed without a battalion of cleaning products. This project is situated within my home and looks into the everyday.

These paintings enquire into the repetitive nature of keeping house and presentation of the home. The removal of labeling elevates the subjects to the classical height of more traditional still life subjects. The vessels have become metaphors of what is still banal, repetitive work despite the bright and appealing colours of the vessels and the organic, comforting forms of the brushes and soap.

Mrs Nina Shudnat was my high school art teacher, a patient and caring woman who ignited my love of still life painting, this is my thanks to her.
