Artist's Statement

My name is Dominique Oberhauser. I’m a French-Tasmanian artist who specialises in the art of illumination.

Illumination means “to bring to light” by using gold leaf and highly pigmented colours, as seen in illuminated manuscripts from the Middle Ages.

All miniatures I create are individually hand painted with intricate details and take an average of 20 hours work. Illumination is a rare and very delicate type of artwork.

“Turkish Delights” is a new style of paintings inspired from traditional Turkish tile designs and Iznik ceramic patterns.

I love the delicate flow and beauty of Turkish designs and I felt inspired to create a series of illuminated miniatures using 23kt gold leaf and intense colours to bring some vibrant Turkish light to Tasmania.
